NWA Anarchy
Episode 59
April 13, 2007
- We begin this episode of Anarchy with a replay of Iceberg walloping Abomination with a chair to no effect. Of course, Abomination destroys Onyx and Jeff Lewis before unleashing Holy Hell on Cornelia, GA.
- Greg Hunter & John Johnson reflect upon Abomination utterly destroying the NWA Elite and every jobber in sight. Johnson says he ran into the woods and hasn’t been seen since. (Now, that is a sick thought.) This week, Ace Rockwell & Slim J take on the challenge of Chad Parham & Jeremy Vain.
1. Azreal w/Dan Wilson & the Staff of Righteousness vs. “Awesome” Austin Creed
THE MATCH: These two start the match by trying to stiff each other. Creed sends Azreal fleeing after a cutter. Alejandro, who is working for minimum wage, can’t even find Jeff G Bailey. Creed goes on an offensive flurry including a rolling clothesline, a knee and another clothesline for a two count. Creed heads to La La Land, but pays the price when Azreal raises his knees on a cross body attempt. Azreal tosses Creed to the floor where Wilson inflicts damage. After commercial, Azreal sends Creed crashing to the mat with an enziguri. Shaun Tempers clotheslines Creed in the corner. Creed fires back with a spinebuster for a two count, but Azreal repays him with a clothesline. Johnson admires Wilson for his manipulative powers while Hunter gives him credit for being the ultimate con man. Azreal applies a chinlock. Creed escapes, but Azreal greets him with a double sledge to the gut. Azreal uses heel tactics to maintain control. He tries to decapitate Creed, but Creed sends him flying to the floor by pulling down the top rope. After heading back in the ring, Creed scores a two count with a rollup. This prompts Wilson to distract Creed by pulling his leg. This allows Azreal to roll him up and I believe a handful of tights for a two count. Creed counters with a small package for a near fall. Azreal ducks the Monte Fisto, but Wilson isn’t so lucky and takes one for the team. Azreal lands a punch to the gut and finishes off Creed with the Throat Slit piledriver.
WINNER: Azreal.
COMMENTS: The match and outcome happened as expected. This was a great showing by Creed and he continues to improve each week.
RATING: **
- Greg Hunter interviews Jerry Palmer regarding the next opponent for Chad Parham and Ace Rockwell. Palmer says that everyone will know who the challengers are after this week. Hunter inquires about “Mr. Representation” Al Getz’s comments, but Palmer walks out.
2. Adrian Hawkins vs. Kid USA
THE MATCH: Kid USA is decked in American flag garb, which Johnson quickly adds, “He dressed up like a big American flag. I only wish we could send him to Iraq so they could burn him… The only time you can condone burning a flag is when it is Kid USA.” The conversation quickly turns to Hawkins new found “winning” attitude. Kid heads to the top rope, but Hawkins causes him to tumble after shoving the referee into the ropes. Hawkins dominates the offense until Captain Planet makes a comeback. Kid lands a guillotine legdrop for a two count. Kid heads to the top, dons his cape and badly misses a cross bodyblock. Hawkins pulls the referee in the way, gouges Kid’s eyes and finishes him off with the Unprettier. Adrian Hawkins received a pop for winning.
WINNER: Hawkins.
POSTMATCH: The lights go out in the NWA Arena and voila, Patrick Bentley makes a special appearance, the lights go out again and Bentley disappears into thin air.
COMMENTS: Both wrestlers tried, but this match was lacking. Hawkins is a great talent, but he needs to work on keeping the crowd interested during his matches. Furthermore, the crowd doesn’t seem too interested in the Seth Delay & Adrian Hawkins vs. Patrick Bentley feud. Bentley’s new character has potential, but he will need to find a way to connect with the fans. Of course, these observations are only based on what I see on my computer screen. Anyways, Kid USA got some major air when he went for a cross bodyblock. Putting the cape on was a nice touch that made it seem like he was flying. Johnson’s joke telling was classic Bobby Heenan heel style color commentating.
RATING: *
- Next up, we join the Hollywood Brunettes in a pool hall. They don’t do charity gigs for free and prepare to do real charity when they visit the NWA Arena.
3. Phil Shatter vs. Adam Roberts
THE MATCH: Johnson apologizes to Shatter & Fields for his comments and spoke to his battalion. “Shatter was indeed the one on kitchen patrol and he really didn’t peel potatoes, but he made a mean chicken noodle soup.” WOW! Shatter takes over with an armdrag into an armbar. He follows with a high knee off the ropes for a two count. Roberts returns fire with a dropkick to the knee. Shatter lands with a loud plunk as Roberts tosses him to the floor. After commercial, Shatter returns fires with a clothesline and a spinebuster. Roberts escapes a DVD and attempts to finish Shatter off, but Shatter small packages him for the victory. Afterwards, Brody Ray Chase & Brandon Phoenix launch a premeditated, but Fields makes the save, Roberts takes exception and helps them destroy the two Marines.
WINNER: Phil Shatter.
COMMENTS: This match was short and nothing special. In fact, it was mainly used to set up a pair of feuds for Shatter & Fields. It was okay for what it was.
RATING: ½*
4. Ace Rockwell & Slim J vs. Chad Parham & Jeremy Vain
THE MATCH: This match is a battle of four of the most popular and hated wrestlers in Anarchy. The announcing team argue over who the best wrestler on television is today, which will eventually lead to a feud between Rockwell & Parham. Rockwell connects with six consecutive armdrags on Vain and J tags in to deliver a seventh. Now, that was awesome. As the heels retreat, Johnson brags about owning Chad Parham’s new T-shirt. J goes to work town on Vain with a Kimura~! After Vain reaches the ropes, J continues to work over Vain’s arm. Vain whips Rockwell into Parham’s knee and follows up with a clothesline. Rockwell escapes a backdrop by Vain and makes the tag to Slim. Slim goes on an offensive flurry and scores a two count with a neck snap. Johnson admits that Slim is much faster than in recent previous matches. Vain takes back over by delivering a high chestdrop to Slim. Vain tags into Parham who lands a nice dropkick and stalling suplex for a two count. Johnson admits that Chad Parham hates golf so much that he slapped half the black off of Tiger Woods. Hunter whistles in total disbelief. Parham scores a two count on Slim after a slam. Johnson continues with his unbelievable ability to tell jokes. Yep, Chad Parham can perform a wheelie on a unicycle. Now, that, I have to see. Did you also know that Parham can tie his shoes with his feet? Vain drops Slim rib first on the top rope. Parham tags in to help deliver a double gourdbuster. Parham makes the cover for a near fall. Rockwell gets the hot tag out of nowhere after a Slim rana on Parham. Rockwell wipes out Parham with a pescado. Rockwell goes to town on Vain. Parham reenters the ring and receives a high backdrop. Rockwell executes a back suplex on Vain and Slim follows up with an inverted DDT, but Parham makes the save. Parham dumps Slim to the floor. Parham & Rockwell avoid each other finisher. Rockwell rolls up Parham for a two count. Rockwell follows up with a headlock cradle to score a huge upset victory on Parham to the crowd’s delight.
WINNERS: Rockwell & Slim J
POSTMATCH: Jerry Palmer heads out to address upcoming title defenses. Parham says it doesn’t matter who his opponent is. Palmer announces that each champion will get to pick the other champion’s challenger at the next Anarchy TV tapings.
COMMENTS: This match accomplished everything it needed to, including a clean finish. It was good and set up perfectly for Rockwell and Parham to face one another in the future. Oh yeah, those six consecutive armdrags were sick.
RATING: **½
- OVERALL: This was a good episode that helped to set up several major upcoming feuds. Despite the lack of any long interviews, there were too good matches and solid booking to make this a good episode to watch.
